Hi everyone this is Jason from EWH. Thanks for stopping by my blog. For everyone who shops with East West Hockey, I would like to say first off, thanks for your support. We'll be posting exciting EWH special products and info on this blog. So for all you gear heads, come back often to see what we can offer you next.Custom Skate fittings are a big topic these days and my passion comes from fitting skates for over 16 years. Because of this I have been to many factory trainings and sold a lot of prostock skates over the years with an emphasis on customs for over 9 years now. I see a lot of crazy feet, foot molds, EEE to A, 3 sizes up in the uppers, height discrepancies, bolts, and whatever else you can think of. End result… I get motivated seeing how amazed and excited customers are at the customs that are built and tailored to their needs. At the end of the day it is truly about a service, a service EWH can offer that will make a difference in your game.

Skate tongues

We are one of the few retailers that sells and can install white felt skate tongues. Looking to upgrade your stock tongues on your new or used skates give us a call.. they are anatomically channeled left and right. Can’t find a shop to sew them in send the skates to us.

Common skate issues creasing, falling asleep, lace bite, and Duck Feet?

Feet falling asleep after only 10 minutes skating? leaving your laces loose in the middle and constantly tighten the top to get support? Assuming you bought the right size The underlying issue could be the fit of the skate vs. your shape of your foot . You could be compensating the lacing to accommodate your foot shape. Take a look at your lace pattern. If the pattern is to wide in the middle or to close together it’s a sign that your in the wrong skate.

When talking about volume in relation to skating fitting we are talking about size and cut of the uppers. In basic form we are talking about the circumference of your ankle and of your mid foot. We sell a MTO (made to order) Nike Bauer skate called the Nike flexlite 18. We are currently one of the few stores who stocks this great skate and may be the answer to your problems. If you can’t even fit into the retail nike flexlite we do custom orders for even the most extreme situations.

EWH commonly asked questions and little bit bits of info.

Q. Do all skates need to be baked?

(Except old synergy 1st generation)

A. Of course… the materials used today are specifically designed to be used with boot ovens. Believe this fact your skates will actually prematurely break down if you don’t have them heat molded.

Q what do heel lifts do?

A.Heel lifts do many things. They can help leg discrepancies, move your balance point more forward for a better skating stance, improve transitions and create more snap in your stride. There is a small percentage of people that do have issues with them… we find some people due to lack of flexible achilles tendon can feel pain under the foot. The beauty of these little babies they are easy to put in and easy to take out.

Q. Superfeet do they work? Will it extend my skate life?

We started selling these guys more than 4 years ago. If you think they help you walk run and ski wait to see what they can do for your skating. Many people don’t realize that the support actually comes from the heel cup not the arch part. Pronation is not a easy thing to fix but if you have the proper skate volume plus the proper heel support you’ll look and feel like a new skater and your skates will last longer. Remember if your skating square on your skates you’ll be distributing your surface weight on two edges on your glide foot = Faster skater + more edge control. Q. Will green Super-feet work? do not try to put green super-feet into skates . Greens are designed for shoes and take up to much volume in the heel and can create a whole domino effect of problems with you and your skate life. Break in period on Super-feet are like wearing a retainer or eye glasses for the first time . Another words if you have been properly fitted you’ll adjust and it will get better. For extreme foot conditions we offer a custom option also. Chris and Jason have graduated super-feet university and are custom certified super-feet specialist. FYI (Green Super-feet only work well in one skate brand Easton)

Q. I recently bought skates from EWH and they hurt my feet.

A. If your complaining about your new bring them in we can help you with your problem. That’s what we are here for. EWH has spent thousands of dollars on tools to correct bone spurs , bunions and wider fore foots issues. And the best part is if you purchased your skates from EWH it all included for the life time of the skate. Many of our customers have not replaced skates in years… I mean years.. Skates have a lot more support and with the heating capability’s are now easier to work on. Then ever.

Q. AKA gradual lace pattern VS. steeper lace pattern. Why so? Advantage? Or disadvantage?

A. I was the one in denial on this one for a while turns out and I can thank this one to St. Jarome. Buy bringing the knee over the ball of the foot your creating more support better balance and skipping a step in your stride. In other words by skipping a step the more revolutions possible the faster you’ll be.

Q. Helmet expiration dates? How do I know when It’s time to replace my hockey Helmet? Or mouth guard?

A. We see this every day old helmets with hardened gel pads from the heat from the sun or parents coming in with second hand helmets with no screws, but holding them together with tape. Hockey is a fun but fast sport. As kids get bigger the concussions are becoming more and more common. In our opinion with the amount of money these hockey companies put into research and testing helmets for the safety of our children and still keeping them under $200 that is a bargain compared to any other sport. If you are playing travel hockey you should be buying high end mouth guards 3 times a season and a new helmets every season. Next time you or your children go to play take a close look at the fit of the helmet. You can have the newest model helmet on the market but if its swimming around on your head there is no benefit. Mouth guards like the shock Dr. DNA are designed for absorbing impact and preventing concussions. State of the art Helmets like 9500/8500 Bauer, mission intake and Easton s15 have all gone through extensive testing and approved for your safety so take advantage of it … and last but not least read the paper work that comes with your next mouth guard or helmet.

New Product Mouth guard designed for side impact Shock Dr. DNA mouth guards. Be sure to come in and see the newest cutting edge mouth guard by shock doctor. The only mouth guard designed for side impact sports. Features dual density semi-rigid exoskeletal frame, rear molar cushions and solid outer shell with wall extensions help reduce jaw injuries caused by front and side impacts. The soft Gel Fit material custom molds to teeth for a tight, comfortable fit. With its convertible quick release tether, the Power Gel DNA can be easily used as a strapped or strapless .
